New Leaders Council

Frequently Asked Questions

• NLC works to train and support the progressive political entrepreneurs of tomorrow — trendsetters, elected officials and civically-engaged leaders in business and industry who will shape the landscape. We train young people from outside traditional power structures and give them the skills to take on some of the country’s biggest political and economic problems of the day. If you’re involved in political work already, great. If not, great. We’re interested in building a diverse network of trained young professionals to take on important issues of the day and build the new class of political entrepreneurs. Apply for the challenge, the new network of fellow leaders, and the skills to work on issues through life and politics. Further, you would be part of the following NLC Programs:

• NLC Institute – 5 trainings over one full weekend from January to May for the next generation of progressive political entrepreneur

• NLC Mentors – During the Institute experience, you will be matched with a mentor to advance your professional and/or personal goals. Fellows meet with their mentors throughout the spring and many relationships continue well beyond the Institute.

• NLC Events – Our chapter holds two large fundraising events each year as well as recruitment events in the Fall. As our chapter continues to develop, we aspire to hold networking events that bring NLC alumni and other progressives together.

There will be five NLC Institute weekends from January to May and a day in June for the NLC graduation dinner/ceremony. They are full weekends – all day Saturday and Sunday.

The application to become a Fellow costs $30. The application fee can be waived in certain cases. Selected Fellows write a $200 check to New Leaders Council at the beginning of the program. If attendance requirements are met that check can either be returned or donated to next year’s class.

We are looking for a diverse group of young professionals to join our chapter’s ranks. We have politicos, non-profit leaders, educators, environmentalists, scientists, tech people, business folks and more. We think our strength is in our diversity and don’t expect campaign experience as a requirement.
